Inclusivity and diversity
What about inclusivity and diversity in future workplaces?
Industry 5.0 aims to be more inclusive. To better accommodate people with disabilities, and other minority groups within the workforce, efforts to promote diversity and gender equality need to double up. Those who are relatively more vulnerable to exploitation, including suffering unfair wages and unsafe working conditions, experience an undermined labour market contribution.
To address these challenges, social dialogue needs to be further democratised to involve more diverse stakeholders - governments, employers, trade unions, and civil society organisations - working in collaborative mood to ensure policymaking that develops inclusive solutions.
One principal goal is enhanced protection and promotion of rights through collective bargaining. By promoting fair treatment and equal opportunities, social dialogue mitigates the risks of further exploitation and abuse faced by vulnerable groups.
Social dialogue enhances stakeholders' capacity to support training, advocacy, and service provision. By equipping stakeholders with the necessary skills and knowledge, social dialogue strengthens their ability to address the challenges effectively. All the above requires a strong union representation.
