New skills
What new skills will I need to keep my job in the future?
Every position is different but in general employees transitioning towards a green economy will need:
- Digital skills (working with AI, analytics, data science)
- Soft skills (communication, teamwork, problem-solving)
- Continuous re-skilling and up-skilling to keep up with changing technologies and the green economy.
In terms of new job needs, the multilingual classification of ESCO (European Skills, Competences, Qualifications and Occupations Taxonomy), signals out 300 occupational profiles in the EU requiring at least one skill labelled as green. In 2022, all EU Member States faced shortages in occupations requiring skills for the green transition. However, you will need to be more specific because of context-based distinctions; there are considerable cross-country variations.
Within the EU, the sectors mostly concerned with green economy skill changes are construction, manufacturing, renewable energy value chains, logistics, and the sector of electrical engineering technicians.
